MORE TO DO...
Public toilets.
Public toilets across Thanet cost thousands of
pounds per year to the taxpayer. For historical reasons Thanet
has many more toilets than most areas, many in inappropriate
places. Past neglect has resulted in many poor quality buildings
that are hard to maintain and keep clean. Toilets in Boundary
Road and adjacent to the Granville Theatre have recently been
closed ready for demolition. We are all hoping that the first of
the new modern toilets will not be too long in coming.
Public art.
Public art can add interest
to our environment for residents and visitors alike. We have
two pieces in Eastcliff, both in need of restoration. Cllr
Green has approached the Ramsgate Society, English Heritage
and the Charter Trustees. As a result, "Destiny" in Albion
Gardens may well be restored with help from the War
Memorials Trust. Pugin's bust on the seafront also needs
repairs to his nose! Any suggestions for sources of help
will be gratefully received.
...and yet more.
The community of residents in Eastcliff is a
unique mixture of "Thanet born and bred" and newcomers choosing
to live in Eastcliff because of the atmosphere and environment.
For many the chance to rent or buy property at reasonable prices
is an important factor.
There are many sources of funding that can help in restoring the
fabric of the area and helping the community. The key to gaining
access to these funds is for residents in the area to associate
together to identify needs and ensure that funds are spent
wisely. Wellington Crescent residents have shown what can be
done, and with the formation of the Eastcliff Residents
Association, we can look forward to many exciting possibilities.
Eastcliff councillors have supported these "self help"
developments and will continue to do so.
