GAS MAIN REPLACEMENT IN THE HIGH STREET

Starting on 29th January gas mains in Ramsgate High Street and King Street will be replaced.

In the High Street work will start outside Boots and be undertaken in 30 Meter sections, with each section taking approximately two weeks. This means that there will be disruption to the pedestrian presinct for about 10 weeks, with the road closed to vehicles.

The contractor will then transfer work to King Street, working from Iceland up to Braces, this work should take four weeks, with the road closed off to vehiclular traffic.

Starting around the beginning of May the rest of the work on the High Street will commence from Hardres Street. This is expected to take a futher twelve weeks with traffic light control.

Hopefully the total work should be completed by the beginning of August.

If you have any questions regarding this work please contact your ward Councillors.

RAMSGATE PARISH/TOWN COUNCIL

Your Eastcliff Ward Councillors, Cllr Steve Ward and Cllr David Green welcome the recent referendum that resulted in the people of Ramsgate voting for a Parish/Town Council for Ramsgate by nearly 60 for to 40 against. This popular vote on a relatively high turnout is an endorsement of involving local residents in the decision making process, which is proposed in the latest Government white paper.

A town council can not come into being until Thanet District Council's report has been received by the Secretary of State. There will then be a period of time for consideration of the report before a decision is made. It is expected that elections for the council will not take place before the end of 2007 or the beginning of 2008.

Your existing Charter Trustees / district Councillors, who are effectively your town Councillors at present, will of course be hoping to stand in these elections. If successful we will shout loudly for Ramsgate, while keeping any increase in council tax to a minimum.

BOUNDARY ROAD REC.

The new shelter we paid for from our grant is now installed in Boundary Road Recreation Ground. We have been successful we think with our bid for funding for an enclosed ball court which should arrive in the new year along with a trained outreach youth worker. We are now consulting with residents, youths and children on what more can be done to improve the park.

We would like to know your views and have included below a form to send your views to us c/o Thanet District Council, Cecil Square, Margate. Don't be shy, all views welcome.

BANDSTAND LIGHTS

Following restoration, the Bandstand has been equipped with a state of the art sound and lighting facility.

The lighting equipment in particular has very low energy consumption which opens the possibility of a continual light display during hours of darkness.

Reaction to the lighting has been mixed. When the bandstand is finally handed over from the contractors ( thought to be end of November ), we need to decide how we wish the bandstand to be lit.

Your Councillors would like everyone who wishes, to have a say on the lighting.

A LETTER FROM EASTCLIFF CO-ORDINATOR KERRY HARKER.

Eastcliff Councillors and I are very aware of resident's concerns over the recent rise in antisocial behaviour in the area.

Whether this be litter and dumped refuse, graffiti and vandalism, or noisy and threatening behaviour, we are doing everything we can to stamp it out.

Evidence of this is the recently agreed Local Dispersal Area around the Trove and Kennedy high rise flats. We identified to the Police and Council that the flats were acting as a focus for gangs of youths from out of the area. As well as vandalism and worse in the flats, their activities were spilling out into the surrounding area.

The new Dispersal Area gives the police extra powers to order groups of two or more out of the area. It also imposes a curfew on underage youths. Although it only operates in a restricted area for 6 months, it means there will be more police in the area generally, which should benefit everyone.

To further our work, I am organising a survey of residents with a free post return, so that you can let us know about any problems in your street, please return the survey.
